OUR BEGINNER EARLY READER PRODUCTS TO USE AT HOME (for ages 2.5-4.5)
Our program starts in preschool, or as early as 2.5, to give children enough time to learn at their own pace, and plenty of time to correct any errors or bad habits before they become an issue for that child in a formal school setting.
We focus on phonetics instruction rather than on letters or sight words, as is taught in the education system. This means that instead of encouraging rote memorization, we encourage kids to build fundamental skills of literacy.
With the Alexander Reading Method, children learn how to place phonetic sounds together in a consistent and manageable way. There is no awkward mispronunciation of words or struggle to ascertain meaning from difficult sounds. Children learn short and long phonetic sounds together to get ahead of this common source of confusion before it becomes a problem for them later.
With two lessons per week, three if the child has some form of learning delay, we can give them a strong foundation of literacy before they go into first grade. The child should go through lessons one, two, and three of the Alexander Reading Method so that they can go into first grade confidently and be able to keep up the pace.
Once your child enters 1st grade, level 4 becomes the focus where we concentrate on long vowels to avoid confusion. By the end of 1st grade, your child will have accomplished both levels 4 and 5, ensuring they are ready to tackle the upcoming deeper comprehension and writing required in 2nd grade.
